Saskatchewan is a province located in western Canada. Its capital city is Regina. Established in 1905, Saskatchewan is one of the three Prairie Provinces along with Alberta and Manitoba. Saskatchewan is known for its agriculture and livestock production, and is considered a major breadbasket of Canada. The province is home to notable universities such as the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan, located in the capital and the largest city, Saskatoon, respectively. Saskatchewan also boasts several famous attractions, including the provincial legislature in Regina, the man-made Wascana Lake, Regina Beach, historic barns scattered throughout the province’s farms, and the hot springs in Moose Jaw.
The major cities in Saskatchewan include Regina, the capital city and second largest city in the province with a population of nearly 236,500 (according to the 2016 Canadian Census), and Saskatoon, the largest city in Saskatchewan. Located on the Trans-Canada Highway 16, Saskatoon is divided into two halves by the South Saskatchewan River, and is commonly known as the “Hub City” due to its central location and importance as an economic and cultural center in the region. Saskatoon and the Chinese city of Jinan became sister cities on August 10, 1987.
