PR Card, also known as the Permanent Resident Card, is a proof of permanent resident and a necessary document for permanent residents to travel abroad. The general validity of PR Card is 5 years, and it should be renewed before it expires.
Applicant Requirements:
- Is a Canadian permanent resident;
- Physically in Canada at the time of application;
- If outside Canada, must apply for a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) from a visa application center or Canadian visa office, and immediately apply for a PR card renewal upon entry;
- Has met the residency requirement by being physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) out of the last 5 years;
- Has not received a removal order;
- Is not a Canadian citizen;
- Has not been convicted of an offense related to misuse of the PR card;
- The card has expired or will expire within 9 months (270 days).
Required documents:
- Application Form for PR Card (IMM5444);
- Document Checklist (IMM5644);
- Fee receipt (IMM5401), with a government fee of CAD 50 for the PR card renewal;
- Copy of passport or other travel document;
- Two photos taken within the past 6 months;
- Copy of the front and back of the current Maple Leaf Card;
- For applicants under 18, copies of birth certificate, school records, or other documents may be required.
