Program Overview
According to Ontario’s immigration policy, international students who have obtained a master’s degree from a public university in the province are eligible to apply for provincial nomination (PNP) for permanent residency, without any restrictions on their field of study or length of course, and no matter if they have found a job or not after graduation.
Applicant Requirements
- Intention to reside and work in Ontario
- Graduated from a university in Ontario with a master’s degree
- Completed at least one year of full-time study
- Apply within 2 years of completing the program, or in the last semester if all degree requirements have been met
- Provide proof of at least one year of residence in Ontario within the past 2 years
- Have legal status in Canada if residing in Canada
- Meet a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 or higher (IELTS minimum 6.0 each band)
- Meet basic financial requirements
Application Process
Ontario’s Masters Graduate Stream has operated on a points-based system since 2011. The application process is as follows:
- Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) online, which assesses language ability, location of school, number of degrees, field of study, type and duration of work, and income to receive an invitation to apply based on the score obtained.
- If invited, submit a complete Provincial Nominee Program application within 14 days, or receive a nomination certificate once approved.
- Submit an immigration application to the federal government.
- Undergo a medical exam and background check.
- Obtain permanent resident status.
